Driven by quality and design strategy

Hello,

I have been an artist since I was 11 years old. I grew up in the country as a boy. I learned to work hard, be respectful, be honest, be creative and to always take pride in my work. Very little of my childhood was spent in front of a television. Instead of playing video games I ran free outdoors. I expanded my imagination playing with LEGOs and scrap electronics. I developed an eye for detail as I created illustrations and dreamed of becoming a comic book artist.

Now I have been a designer and illustrator for over 16 years. I have worked for clients large and small and continue to gain valuable knowledge every day.

Skills

My top skills are collaboration, communication, and project management. I have collaborated among cross-functional team environments such as human resources, editorial, marketing, events, engineering, science, and internal/external stakeholders. In addition, I am a self-motivated person who takes initiative in taking on multiple projects at a time with limited resources, personnel, funds, and time. Beyond simply collaborating with people I have used my strong communication and project management skills to lead as well as manage interpersonal relationships with some of the most challenging personality types.

Experience

Over the years I have lived in many places. I grew up in the beautiful Smoky Mountains of Tennessee. However, shortly before I started college my family made a bold move to Hilo, Hawaii. Most of the time I attended college I worked at a local art supply store where I began my career as graphic designer. Before graduating from my first college I dove headfirst into a layout editor position at the University of Hawaii, beginning my experience creating printed publication layouts. I then continued my education in Lincoln, Nebraska. At Union College I was overwhelmed by the number of design opportunities I received, allowing me to expand my experience. I worked for school clubs, the student government, non-profit organizations, and for AdventSource. This resulted in a healthy graduate portfolio that was free of design class projects. Prior to my final graduation I was hired to work in-house for a prestigious international science company. I can not overstate how valuable my experience has been working for LI-COR. I have learned to work closely in teams of professional people with highly technical backgrounds in science, engineering, and development. I've been thrilled to work on highly accurate scientific illustrations, user interface design, and advanced responsive web styling.

Communications Director
MyGeneration Church is a new Seventh-day Adventist church plant in New York city. A unique church designed to stand out from traditional churches, with a reimagined format that caters to young adults. Part of the big difference is that the leaders of the church appreciate the importance of strong communications. For this reason I was recruited to design the brand for this new church, create their web site, and join leadership as director of communications.
