Although in more recent years this name was commonly seen in Europe and Australia, the feminine name Sharna originated from Hebrew where it meant “great fertile plain.” It also has an origin in Sanskrit where it means “one who guards” or “security.” Others believe that Sharna is a variant of Sharon that was taken from the Old Testament, which can either refer to the fertile plains near Israel or the small flowering shrub called the “Rose of Sharon.”
